Dr. Melanie Lawrence

A native of Trussville, Alabama, Dr. Melanie Lawrence has had an interest in eye care since she received her first pair of glasses at the age of 4 and underwent eye muscle surgery at the age of 5. Dr. Lawrence completed her undergraduate education at Birmingham-Southern College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. She is an accomplished flutist and enjoys singing as well.

Dr. Lawrence obtained her optometric education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. During this time she was privileged to work with excellent mentors and received specialized training in ocular disease, contact lenses, pediatrics, vision therapy, and refractive and cataract surgery co-management. In addition, she was able to participate in many community service activities, including providing vision care for under-served communities and traveling to Honduras to provide eye examinations. Dr. Lawrence also completed two externships in private practice settings, including an externship with Eyecare Plus.

In her free time, Dr. Lawrence enjoys listening to live music and performing. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, dog, and family. She is excited to “get back to her roots” here in Prattville. Her great-grandparents met while working in the historic cotton mill in 1907.

Dr. Lawrence is a member of the Alabama Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She looks forward to caring for your eyes and providing you and your family with comprehensive vision care.
